Is Tablo right for you? You’ve heard the buzz and read the expert reviews, but sometimes it helps to hear the whole Tablo Success Story from real Tablo customers to know if this is the right solution for you.
Our latest blog series, “How I Cut the Cord with Tablo” features Q&A style interviews with our Tablo OTA DVR customers, focusing on how they’ve cut the cord on cable to save money while enjoying a whole-home DVR experience using Tablo.
Whether you’re still on the fence about cutting the cord or you’re just looking for tips and tricks on how to improve your cord-cutting setup, we hope you’ll find these cord-cutting success stories helpful.
Why did you cut the cord? How much money are you saving each month?
I recently moved and decided I didn’t want to pay anyone anything for TV anymore. I didn’t plan to stop watching TV – I just wanted to stop paying for it. I was spending close to $150 a month to get programming from a mid-tier satellite package to four TVs. Now I spend $0 a month. I get so excited whenever I think about this that a little pee comes out.
What do you get with an HDTV antenna that you couldn’t get another way?
I’m getting a clean, high-bitrate HD signal, uncompressed by a cable or satellite company before it makes its way into my house. I’m also getting a smug sense of superiority whenever I think about how much I’m not paying the cable and satellite industries.
Why did you choose the Tablo OTA DVR as part of your home entertainment arsenal?
The TV signals flying through the air are completely free, so why should I have to pay anything to receive them? This one simple realization worked me into a cost-cutting frenzy. I wanted to eliminate an unnecessary monthly fee from my life. Tablo’s “you buy it, it’s yours forever” hardware policy coupled with their lifetime subscription option sold me.
What’s been the best thing about using/having Tablo so far?
I’ve realized that for all the shows I’ve missed on basic cable, there’s just as many great shows and movies broadcast free, over-the-air. It’s also given me a good reason to learn Spanish, Vietnamese and Korean. This is not something that I will ever do, but sweet baby Jesus there’s plenty of TV to watch in LA if I change my mind.
What other services and tools do you use to watch TV/Video content and why?
We’ve got Roku devices attached to every TV in the house. Tablo is our whole-home DVR and the Rokus are our ‘cable’ boxes, only they’re smaller and do much more than any cable box I’ve ever seen. Like any self-respecting American we’ve got a Netflix subscription, but the majority of our TV content comes through Tablo or one of a handful of free Roku apps.
What advice do you have for others thinking of cutting the cord?
Just do it, you giant baby! The cable industry is run by monsters and you’re insane for spending what you do every month. You can always augment your Tablo content with something like a Netflix or Hulu subscription and you’ll STILL pay less than whatever you’re paying now. The first month hurts a little, but you’ll make it work and you’ll feel incredible.
If you’re already enjoying your Tablo OTA DVR, remember to post a review of your DVR on the online store where you purchased your unit and let your fellow cord-cutters know how Tablo works for you.
