Today’s question comes from Seth who asks, “On Tablo, is there a way to set a whole show to record? Or will I have to set a timer for each new episode every week?”
You absolutely can schedule a full series to record using your 4th Generation Tablo whole-home DVR.
As mentioned in our last Q&A, 4th Generation Tablo devices include a rolling 14 days of programming information. When you set a full TV series to record, let’s say Chicago Fire, your Tablo will look for any airing of that show happening in the next two weeks and schedule it to record.
Then as new days of TV guide information are downloaded to your Tablo device, it will look for any new airings of Chicago Fire and keep setting them to record forever, until you tell it to stop.
You can even set series recordings for just NEW episodes to avoid reruns or set it to record ALL episodes.
And since Tablo sets its recordings using a special series ID, if there’s an extra long episode, or the program changes its permanent timeslot or even its network, your Tablo will keep that recording schedule current.
There is one exception. Your Tablo cannot adjust recording schedules due to last-minute changes caused by presidential addresses, breaking news, or sporting events going into overtime.
Since broadcasters will not provide updates for ‘day of’ changes and adjustments occurring further out are downloaded during overnight maintenance, your Tablo is unlikely to be aware of these shifts in the schedule.
If your favorite TV show frequently airs after a sporting event, you may wish to use Tablo’s advanced recording options to add up to 3 hours of additional time to the schedule to ensure the full episode gets captured.
